Upper Back/Bra Line Lift Saint Louis

Don’t like the way your back contours in tighter clothing? Tired of those annoying back rolls? If you are feeling insecure about the drooping skin and excess tissue that sags on your back, it may be time to look into getting a back lift. Most people with loose skin in this area have tried vigorous workouts in an attempt to tighten up but still have limited success. There are no workouts that can correct sagging skin, but surgical solutions can be remarkably effective.

Our surgeons have been able to help numerous patients with their excess back skin and stubborn back fat using this effective body contouring procedure. The ideal candidate for a back lift is someone who is in good health, does not smoke, and has attempted to work out but cannot get their back as toned as they would like.

During your back lift consultation, your surgeons will evaluate your overall health, thoroughly examine your back laxity, and review your medical history to determine if you are fit for the back lift procedure. They will discuss procedures that typically can be combined and blended well such as a concurrent breast lift or upper arm lift. You will be able to ask any questions you may have and can view before-and-after photos. The details of the procedure will be explained, including preparation and post-operative care directions. Discomfort may last for a few days to a week or so. PREPARING FOR AN UPPER BACK LIFT:

Smoking and all forms of nicotine should be stopped 2-4 weeks prior to surgery. This includes e-cigarettes, patches, and gum.

Any medications and supplements which cause an increased risk of bleeding should be stopped 2 weeks prior to any major surgery. Please see our list of medications and supplements to avoid. As always, make sure to check with your doctor before stopping any medications.

UPPER BACK LIFT TECHNIQUE

The back lift is performed as an outpatient procedure. On the day of surgery, your surgeon will mark all of the excess skin that will be removed. For women, this will remain as a straight line kept within the confines of your typical bra or swimsuit. Our surgeons encourage you to bring either of these garments on the day of surgery so they can mark the outlines and ensure your scar will remain concealed within.

General anesthesia will then be administered for the procedure. Numbing medication will be infiltrated at the surgical site to minimize postop discomfort. Incisions will be made and the excess tissue will be removed. The remaining skin is redraped and tightened. Incisions will be meticulously closed in multiple layers with special absorbable sutures. A medical skin glue will be placed on top of this to seal out bacteria and make the area waterproof so you can shower the next day. Thin surgical drain tubes may or may not be placed to help remove any fluid during your healing process. This procedure usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours.

Recovering From An Upper Back Lift

Upper back lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients will have some discomfort, but typically this procedure is not overly painful. Patients can shower the following day. Drainage tubes (if used) are usually removed in 1 week when the daily fluid output has decreased to acceptable levels. Plan to take 1-2 weeks off of work depending on your required job activity level. Light exercise can typically be resumed in 2-3 weeks, with a return to full activities in 4-6 weeks. Our surgeon use special plastic surgery techniques to keep your scars as faint and thin as possible. These typical remain quite hidden within normal bra and swimsuit wear and fade well within 1 year with ongoing good scar care.
